A native to Colorado, Troy was born and raised in the heart of Denver. With a dance degree from the University of Northern Colorado, Troy’s path in dance has never strayed far from the support and love of home. Now the founder and artistic director of 7th Son Productions & Streetside Studios, Troy’s vision in dance has spanned from inner city youth outreach to multi-media full-length production. A master in the elements of Hip Hop (popping, locking, freestyle, r&b, breaking and house), Troy also offers an extensive background in modern, jazz, partner dance, stepping and ballet.

WHO IS AMATEUR APE?Party rocking is the goal be it a crowd of college kids, country folk, hip-hop heads, 30 somethings, 20 somethings or the typical Top-40 radio lovers; these are Amatuer Ape fans. Amateur Ape is the combined live efforts of established hip-hop DJs B-Money, Almighty I.Z. and Ear Attent. Amateur Ape's style is to use 3 turntables to blast anything from funk, soul, hip-hop, Top 40, 70s, 80s, 90s, dance or even country along with the crowds demands.

Amateur Ape is the result of many friendly mix sessions between B-Money, Iz and Ear Attent. New to the scene as a group but seasoned veterans, Amateur Ape was formed in Fall 2009 and quickly gained noteriety for party rocking using only turntables and no pre-built set lists; this formula enables the show to quickly be molded by audience reaction and participation making each performance unique to itself.

“B” grew up in Denver and began Djing house parties in high school. He's mastered his craft in competition most noted as the champion of the Illiterate Battle in 2006. He currently is a resident DJ and host of the premier college hip-hop show Basmentalism (1190 AM KVCU)

“Iz” is a jack-of-all trades; producer/emcee/DJ. His group Earthwormz found success in the early 2000s and again in Japan in 2007 under Rimeout Records. During all this, his Djing combined with his production and love of the MPC2000XL sampler has brought a touch of old school sounds to the mix.

Streetside Studios is an educational dance training center located in Boulder. We offer a diverse array of contemporary and traditional forms of dance, with a focus on hip hop.
